Online sales of child car safety seats in China grew 23.2% to CN¥ 2.29 billion in the first half of 2026, according to Moojing Market Intelligence, after growth of 11.0% in 2024 and 18.8% in 2025, so that the category has grown faster in each of the last three periods, and seats sold on comfort features, from ventilation to heating and a deeper recline, grew fastest of all.
These figures come from the third chapter of the full report, which gives car safety seats a chapter of their own because they were the core driver of growth in baby gear, a category whose online sales rose 12.7% in the same half-year.

Method and scope: observed online sales on mainstream e-commerce platforms in China, January to June 2026 against January to June 2025, and annual sales for 2023 to 2025, from Moojing Market Intelligence; not the total market, since offline retail sits outside it. Selling points and consumer concerns are Moojing's classification of products and of social-media posts, and one product can carry several selling points. Ownership and usage figures are from the survey credited below.
How fast is China's child car seat market growing?#
China's online sales of child car safety seats reached CN¥ 2.29 billion in the first half of 2026, according to Moojing Market Intelligence, an increase of 23.2% on the first half of 2025, and the growth rate has risen in each period since 2024, from 11.0% that year to 18.8% in 2025, which makes car seats the core driver of growth in baby gear.

How many Chinese families own and use a child car seat?#
Most car-owning families in China with young children now own a child car seat, but fewer use one on every journey: a survey by the Renmin University of China Center for Public Communication Research, released in December 2025, found that 88.1% of car-owning families with children aged 0-10 own a seat, and that 59% use it on every trip and 36.4% most of the time.
The survey measures ownership and use among families, while Moojing's figures measure what is sold online, so the two describe different things, although both point to a category in which most families with a car and a young child are already buyers, and in which the seats that grew fastest in the first half of 2026 were those that offered something more than the basic function of a seat.
What rules apply to child car seats in China?#
Two national rules now apply to child car seats in China: Article 18 of the Law on the Protection of Minors, amended in 2021, requires guardians to take measures such as fitting a child car seat when minors travel by car, and the national standard GB 27887-2024 took effect on 1 July 2025. The standard's full title is Child Restraint Systems for Motor Vehicles.
The standard groups seats by a child's height rather than weight, requires rear-facing use under 15 months, adds a side-impact crash test, tightens the rules on ISOFIX connectors, flammability and heavy metals, and asks for visual and audible prompts that confirm a seat has been installed correctly.
Which car seat features are growing fastest?#
Comfort and thermal features grew fastest among car-seat selling points in China in the first half of 2026, according to Moojing Market Intelligence, with heating, a larger recline angle, sunshades and ventilation all growing far faster than the category, while age fit, ventilation and certification remained the selling points attached to the largest sales.

Exhibit 12, without one-hand operation. Source: Moojing Market Intelligence, observed online sales on mainstream e-commerce platforms in China: car safety seat sales by selling point, H1 2026, and sales growth on H1 2025. One-hand operation, which grew fastest of all from a small base, is left off the chart. Selling points overlap, so their sales do not add up to the market. Not the total market.
Seats sold on side protection, neck support and support legs also grew, and certification is among the selling points attached to the largest sales, while the installation features that once set a seat apart, 360° rotation and ISOFIX connectors, sold less than a year before as buyers moved towards seats that are lighter and can be worked with one hand. One-hand operation itself grew fastest of all the selling points in the report, although from a small base, which is why we treat it as a direction of travel rather than a market in its own right.
Who is talking about child car seats online?#
Women make up 62.3% of the social-media users discussing child car seats in China, according to Moojing Market Intelligence, against 37.7% for men, whose share of the conversation rose slightly in the first half of 2026, and the conversation is concentrated among users in tier-1 and new tier-1 cities and among users aged 21 to 35.
Needs differ by family: long-distance travel families, the largest segment at 29.2% of car-seat consumers in Moojing's segmentation by core need, look for breathable fabric, a large recline for sleeping and space; new parents put complete certifications and installation that is easy to understand first; parents of young infants want rear-facing support and good neck support; solo caregivers favour 360° rotation, one-hand operation and light weight; and families with two or more children look for seats that save space and last for years. Comfort, convenience and safety are the needs they share.
What do people discussing car seats talk about and complain about most?#
People discussing car seats on social media in China talk most about installation, at 13.9% of consumer concern mentions in the first half of 2026, according to Moojing Market Intelligence, followed by comfort at 9.3% and design at 8.5%, and a seat that is cramped or does not fit the child is the complaint raised most often, ahead of a child's discomfort and difficult installation.

Exhibit 18. Source: Moojing Market Intelligence social listening: car safety seats, consumer concern mentions by dimension, and pain-point mention rate, H1 2026. Shares of consumer mentions, not a measure of sales.
The complaints cluster around space, ride comfort and installation, which is where the growing selling points are already pointing, and for manufacturers the practical reading is that a seat which fits a growing child for longer, keeps that child comfortable on a long journey and can be fitted correctly the first time answers the three complaints that buyers raise most often.
Earlier coverage of the category, including how premium car seats grew in the first half of 2023, shows how far the market has moved since, and the full picture of car seats in 2026, including the segment needs and the verbatim complaints behind these shares, is in the full report.
